Debutante Ball

By tradition, her left-hand aunt and her right-hand aunt trailed behind. Later there would be tea.

For someone who's constantly ripping on modern cartoons over on the John K blog, you seem to be borrowing from them an awful lot.

Me thinks you should stop throwing stones in glass houses...

No, I'm swiping from some of the same places they are.

This one and the other one like it is me swiping Kirby and taking it into girlytown.

Going down the front of this, we have my interpretation of the work of a friend who's been going from cubism to UPA/HB, some stuff I admired in Bill Sienkiewicz's painterly stuff crossed with Hirschfeld, more Kirby-femme, lazy color-field abstraction, pseudo-Spümcø lettering in mutant Kirby bgs via Matt Howarth, and one where I think I was sort of thinking Moglidani and Matisse and maybe a little Miro...

I'm not living in the house you think I am. I'm living in a house whose foundations are Winsdor McCay and Edward Gorey.

And I also like asking the occasional leading question of my former boss to see if he goes where I think he will.

Interesting... I got here via John K too, your work clearly has something, as does your brain. Which I like.

Thanks!

I'm not sure I'm entirely sane, given the stuff that bubbles out of the back of my mind and onto paper, but i do have fun drawing it.
